Timbre and Orchestration Analysis
Time: July 14, 2020 11:00-14:00 EDT
Hello, all!
The agenda and materials for our Timbre and Orchestration Analysis workgroup meeting on the 14th are now online, see the Information Page (login required).
As you'll see, we have a very rich and wide-ranging list of presentations. Many thanks to all the contributors who've volunteered to discuss their work!
Our plan for this year's meeting is to keep presentations very short (five minutes or less) to allow substantial time for discussion and planning. To this end, many of the presenters have posted papers, handouts, or videos online for review before our meeting. If all participants can take a look at these materials in the days before the 14th, we'll be able to hit the ground running with our discussions and exchanges.
We will also have some quick announcements and project reports, plus calls for collaboration from ACTOR members. If you have ideas for projects or collaborations that aren't on the agenda, please feel free to bring them up in the final hour of the meeting.
Presenters: Please let me know in advance if you'd like to share your computer's screen and audio over Zoom. This shouldn't be too difficult, but it requires some advance planning to add you as a co-host. If you have just a few slides or pages to show, I can also share them through my computer to simplify the flow of the session. Plan to keep your presentation to no more than five minutes... we're on a tight schedule and can't run over without cutting into the time allotted to other presenters. If you have any modifications to the information about your talk on the agenda, let me know and I'll make the change.
All participants: Zoom meeting information is below. Since we're a fairly large group (30+), please keep your microphone on mute to avoid extraneous background noise. You can unmute to speak by holding the spacebar or by clicking the microphone icon. To keep our discussions well-organized, I encourage you to use the "hand raise" option if you'd like to address a presenter or the whole group. Questions and comments can also be typed into the chat window, which we'll monitor throughout the meeting. Our meeting will be recorded, and we'll put together minutes (including action items) afterwards.
And finally, I'd urge encourage all participants to think about consider how this meeting might lead to collaborations that continue through the next year (or longer!). One of ACTOR's main goals is to bring together researchers, artists, and students from different institutions, and we have funding opportunities to support student exchanges and strategic projects on all aspects of orchestration research and creation. If there are presentations that catch your interest, I encourage you to get in touch with the presenter or project leader to let them know.
Looking forward to talking with you all on the 14th!
Bob
