Y2 Virtual Workshop
Timbre Semantics
Dear ACTOR colleagues and students,
Thank you for signing up to the ACTOR workgroup on TIMBRE SEMANTICS, which is scheduled for Thursday, July 16th, 11am-2pm EDT.
We are contacting you as we would like to know if you would be interested in contributing to this workshop by making a short (5–10min), informal presentation or by animating a discussion by sharing topics or questions with the group. We welcome presentations at any stage of a project: research currently in development or in progress are encouraged. Please submit your ideas, by Tuesday July 7th, using the short webform below:
https://forms.gle/mGWkeKsyvbZ3hgQs6
ACTOR workshop participants are also strongly encouraged to prepare in advance materials to be discussed at the workshop. The materials may be pdf files of text, scores or graphics, videos, sound files, links to websites (.webloc), or anything else you deem appropriate. Participants may also record longer presentations using slides and voice over. (This can easily be done with Zoom; see https://blog.zoom.us/so-youve-made-a-zoom-recordingnow-what/ ).
Please send us all the materials that you would like to have people peruse BEFORE the session by next Thursday (July 9th). These will be put on the ACTOR Repository, see the Information Page (login required).
The workshop will be focused on brief, casual presentations, discussion, brainstorming, and planning of collective activities over the next year.
Here is a tentative list of the topics to be addressed:
Overview of last year report (what was planned, what was done, what still needs to be done)
Presentations on projects in the field of timbre semantics (5–10 minutes)
Research methods in timbre semantics.
Discussion on the connections between this working group and the other ACTOR working groups (how can this group contribute to or learn from other ACTOR groups' activities)
Planning of collective activities over the next year.
Finally, we are also looking for student volunteers who would take notes and help us to prepare the report of this workgroup for the annual ACTOR workshop summary.
Please let us know if you have any questions. We thank you in advance for your participation!
Looking forward to seeing you very soon,
Best,
Caroline Traube and Zach Wallmark
